On December 29, 2024, former President Jimmy Carter died at the age of 100, surpassing the record for the nation’s longest-lived former presidents. On January 9, 2025, a national day of mourning was declared and Carter was eulogized during a state funeral held in Washington, D.C.
I was tasked to work as a picture editor working the night shift at the Atlanta Herald-Times working to illustrate the accompanying text story, which started on A1. I worked to assemble a wide working edit using the AP and Getty Images wires.
